To Everything, Turn, Turn, Turn

We had a very momentous occasion last night. Abigail turned over and just before her 4 month "birthday"! She has been working on this for a few weeks making a little progress every week. The first major hurdle to cross was her working on her tummy. When we first started "tummy time" with her, she would last about 3 seconds. She didn't like being on her tummy and was very vocal about it! But we started working every couple of days to get her on her tummy to work on her holding up her head. Tummy seconds were turning into tummy minutes and we played with her on her play mat. What also helped was the introduction of Mrs. Pots. Mrs. Pots is Abigail's favorite toy (for now). Nothing fancy but she just giggles when she sees her. Mrs. Pots lights up and sings about colors and numbers. It is amazing what really makes a baby happy. What I wasn't prepared for was that all of us go around the house singing the songs from Mrs. Pots. "Put the red pan in, take the blue pan out, place the shapes inside, stir them all about..."

Last week, with Mrs. Pots' help, Abigail perfected rolling on her side. So much so that when I came to get her out of her crib after naps, she would be looking out the side rails towards her room. We really were excited for her to start rolling onto her side. What we weren't prepared for was that it would be so quickly for her to completely turn over!

So last night I came home from work and was playing with Abby on her play mat, like I do almost every day after work. She was playing on her back while I was talking with everyone and keeping her entertained. All of a sudden, she got onto her side. I was happy and trying to coax her onto her stomach. But I knew that she could get to her side already but I wasn't prepared for her to start rocking her body towards me. She had one leg over the other and was working to turn herself from her back onto her tummy! I called everyone over to the floor to watch. I put Mrs. Pots on the floor and boy was she working hard! Abby was so determined and squealing in delight at Mrs. Pots. Then she just lurched her body and was on her stomach! We were all clapping and cheering in delight! I don't quite know if she knew what she was doing so I put her back on her back (after a big hug). As I turned Mrs. Pots on again, Abigail turned onto her side almost immediately. She looked around, lurched forward and was on her tummy again! Yeah! It isn't a fluke! Our baby can turn onto her tummy.

Thankfully, she turned one more time and I was able to get it on video. It is such a wonderful sight to see her growing more and more. She is discovering what she can do with her body and realizing that she has feet! Abby grabs her feet with her hands and even hold onto objects and toys.

Hard to believe the difference a few months make. It is even harder to believe that we have only been a family for 4 months.
