Back to Work

At 12 weeks, my maternity leave ended. I was going to have to go back to work. I wasn't so concerned with leaving Abigail. Josh was going to be home for the summer and his parents were in to watch her. She was going to have three people to spoil her. My real concern was balancing time that I had to work versus spending time with her. Not to mention having to pump at work to produce milk for her. I soon realized that in addition to me being a mommy and working, pumping was my third job. It take an astounding amount of comittment and a little insanity to make it work. After my first week of work, I soon understood why many people today use formula. I just felt like I had overcome so much in the first few weeks with breastfeeding that I was going to make this work.

The first week back at work was a little useless. I really didn't do anything but socialize and clear out my 600 emails that were on my computer. Why 600 emails? I had an out of office reply that stated I would be gone until June but I was still copied on conversations and problems that were long over by the time I got the email. But I slowly was getting there. What I really have to find is my internal motivation to be at work. It isn't that I don't like my job but I really just want to be home with my baby girl.

Abigail keeps making more and more progress. The smiles are much more forthcoming and seem to be all the time. We definitely have a happy girl on our hands!
We even went to a wedding with Abby. She was such a good girl even though I had to keep my finger in her mouth during the ceremony. Josh and I hoped that she would go to sleep but there was just too much going on that she didn't want to miss. I am sure you are thinking "You took a baby to a wedding?!?!" At first we weren't too sure about taking her to a wedding but we did check with the groom who told us to bring her. So, we did! She did sleep a little in the reception so I ate with one hand on the stroller rocking her. Josh and I were very proud of her. She did very well!
