Lots of First

We have been having a lot of first times. Of course, this is the first time I have posted in about three months. That in itself is momentous. I guess the best way to do this is to just start talking about all these first things we, as a family, are experiencing.

First foods. We decided to wait until 6 months to try solids. Too many contradictions over starting solid food at 4 months versus 6 months. Our pediatrician said to wait on solids...which of course we were told at our 6 month check up that we should have started solids already...but we won't go into that one. Anyways, I just figured that we weren't in that much of a rush so why not wait until 6 months for solids. Our first try with solids started with rice cereal. Of course it got all over the place but Abigail seemed to have fun.

We have progressed to all sorts of baby food now. Carrots, green peas, squash, and now fruits. I do taste test everything to see what she is eating. Surprisingly, it is really good. We even tried oatmeal this past weekend. It is funny to see Abby trying something new for the first time. She sort of rolls it around in her mouth and then swallows it down. Then of course, she wants more! Though I think she likes playing with the spoon much more than actually eating.

The funniest part of this is that we started her on one meal a day. I would get home from work and feed Abby in her high chair. But we had to allow day care to start feeding her. Apparently she got jealous when all the other babies were eating and she wasn't. I guess she just wanted to prove to all of them that she was a big girl and could eat too!

First Sukkot. Josh decided last year that we (he) should build a Sukkah in our back yard. He bought all the right wood and planned it out perfectly. Because of his new job this year, he was hesitant to build a Sukkah because he didn't know when he would have the time to build it. I knew that it was important to have Abby celebrate her first Sukkot so I told him he should build it.

He did a wonderful job. We had a great dinner in it and enjoyed our first Sukkot as a family.

Of course this led to another first. Josh was the first one to break a window in the house. Apparently when he was taking the Sukkah down, a piece of wood swung in and cracked a pane of glass. Thankfully, no one was hurt and it was easy enough to get someone out the next day to replace the glass.

First sitting up. Abby has been wanting to sit up for awhile. However, she just has not been physically able to do it. She just would want me to sit her down on her play mat and hold her in the sitting position...funny girl. But she managed to achieve sitting up all on her own now. Of course she doesn't understand the entire balance thing and if she reaches for something to the side, she sort of topples over. But that too will come in time.

Abby's first loss. I guess this has been harder for Josh and I than Abigail. On August 1, we lost our Papa Mickey. I am so thankful for all the wonderful laughs I had with him. I am truly thankful that Papa lived long enough to have a great granddaughter and meet her. However, I am sad that Abby will never get to know how great a person he was and how much we miss him every day.

Now at seven months old, Abby is thriving and doing beautifully. Her personality continues to come out more and more each day. Josh and I are completely in love with her.

I didn't realize that you were still blogging. Excellent! Nothing to do at work today, so I am catching up on Abby. Can't wait to meet her Friday! I guess I should start blogging again too.

She gets pretty each time I see new pictures of her. I hope to meet her someday soon.
