At the start of my 15th week of pregnancy the need to be in maternity clothes full time was here. I decided that it was time to tell work. Everyone was excited for me and I have been getting advice and comments ever since...but it is all with good intentions and therefore taken with a grain of salt. I was sporting a cute belly and people were now starting to think "Is she pregnant or did she just gain some weight in one particular area?" I also started getting, what I have made up as, the "pregnancy look". I should coin a new phrase! It could be on the Internet on Wikipedia and then everyone would know it (thanks Stephen Colbert!). The pregnancy look is when a pregnant woman walks by a person and that person makes eye contact with the woman. However, instead of just smiling or looking away from the woman, the person's eyes immediately go from the women's eyes to her belly. Quickly, that person realizes that this woman may just be fat and looks away quickly because they are ashamed that they may just be staring down a fat woman. But then they look back just one more time to see if maybe she is pregnant. This whole exchange happens in a matter of seconds but it has never happened to me before. Sure if a guy was looking at me because he thought I was cute, I would get at least a smile from him looking me up and down. Now, a guy looks up and then on the way down stops to stare at my belly. Then with the eyes forward, just keeps on walking. But I personally think I am very cute pregnant. So, it is his loss!
We did decide for Halloween this year that my costume would have to include my growing belly. All of the maternity costumes that I found were more for people who were in their third trimester and not with just a cute baby bump. So after combing the internet, this is what I came up with:
If people didn't know that we were pregnant before, they certainly were going to know now! We went around to two different parties and everyone loved our costumes. Of course these are the type of costumes that I probably won't ever wear again but it was worth it.
So, by the end of October, everyone knew that our little Bean was on the way. We were and still are so excited.
