'Bout Time!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I haven't blogged in a VERY long but there has been a pretty good reason. Alright, the best reason in the world, in my opinion. Josh and I are expecting a baby! A little bean we can corrupt. HAHAHA (evil laugh).

So, I figured I should write about some of the neat things that have happened before July 30 when we found out we were going to be parents. First things first, how I told Josh. This is going to be one of those stories that I will never be able to forget but I figured whoever reads this may get a kick out of the story.

Josh and I had decided after my birthday in April that we were going to stop all forms of pregnancy prevention that we had been doing. The goals that we had set before deciding when would the right time be had come to pass. Those goals included me finishing graduate school, us moving into a house, and traveling to Australia. We even did a bonus of traveling to Israel. So we figured it was about time.

So between April and July...we won't go into what was happening then. One good side note is that Josh changed jobs, which allowed him to be home more...but like I said, I won't go into that.

Long story short, July 30 I wasn't feeling too much like myself. My parents were in town and we went to go see a practice game played by the Tampa Bay Bucs. Usually it is a lot of fun but I just wasn't up to it. We headed home and once everyone got out of the car, I decided to tell everyone that I needed to put gas in the car...by myself…alone. My parents went into the house and Josh figured since I wasn't acting much like myself, that I must just need some time alone. Well, I didn't quite just go to the gas station. I also went to Walgreens, which is next to the gas station for a pregnancy test. I figured something had to be up.

I returned home and ran upstairs. My parents were sitting on the couch and Josh was on the computer in the recliner. Everyone figured I was just taking care of whatever and didn't think twice. So I went upstairs to take the test. I decided I wasn't even going to mess with ones with lines at first (I bought two types). I went straight for the one that would say "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant". I mean, how can I mess up that type? About 30 seconds after I took the test, it pops up "Pregnant". I thought, no way! So I took one with the lines. One lines no, two lines yes. With whatever remained in my bladder, I took the test. Yup, two lines! I just though NO WAY! So I called downstairs for Josh to come upstairs and see what happened. I gave him the test that said "Pregnant" and what was the first thing that he said to me? "Wow" you think? "Yeah" you say? Nope! As I handed him the test with my hands shaking from excitement, he looks at me and says "what does this mean?" I look at him and say "ummm, what does it say?" Josh looks again and says "Pregnant? Is this accurate?" As I show him the box that says "99% accurate, I shake my head affirming that we are pregnant. But does Josh jump up and down at this point? NOPE! He tells me to jump on the computer and see if I can find any research to back up that this test is accurate. Slightly frustrated but too excited to care, I jump on the computer upstairs while Josh jumps on the computer downstairs. Like idiots, we are instant messaging each other through the floors to say "look at this website" and "look at that website". After about 20-30 minutes, Josh is convinced that the test is accurate and I am pregnant. Here is what I showed Josh (sorry it is a little blurry)...what do you think?

We decided the best way to tell the parents was to be at the same time with my parents being in our family room and Josh's parents on the phone. We always knew that with our parents being in different states that there was going to be one set on the phone. So I woke my mom up from a nap (sorry mom) and Josh got his parents on the phone. We broke the news and everyone was beyond excited. I could hear Josh's mom crying through the phone and my mom was about to break into tears in our family room.

Next calls went to the siblings, grandparents and extended family. Everyone was going to know within the next few hours!

Not exactly what I had pictured in my head but I wouldn't change it. I figured it would always make a good story for a blog!
